The current volume of flowers in São Paulo orchards, which will give rise to oranges from the 2022/23 harvest, is considered satisfactory by agents consulted by Cepea in most citrus growing areas in the state of São Paulo. Second Cepea researchers, while in irrigated orchards the opening of flowering was observed from September onwards, in those without irrigation, this only occurred in mid-October, after the – delayed – arrival of the rains.

Now, agents are concerned about possible impacts of the lack of rain this year on plant vigor. It is worth remembering that the climate has direct influence on setting, i.e., rain, excessive heat or even large thermal amplitudes can have a negative effect on this phase of fruit development.

Cepea researchers emphasize that the result of this stage should be best rated at the beginning of next year.
