The assessment concerns the possibility for member states to establish temporary authorizations for pesticides
The first contract proposals for the 2023/24 orange harvest began to be made by the large juice industries in the state of São Paulo. For now, new purchases are being made at R$38,00/box of 40,8 kg, harvested and put into the grinding plant. This value is much higher than the first proposals for the 2022/23 season – between R$30,00 and R$32,00/box.
According to Cepea researchers, in addition to the new purchases, large companies have also renewed contracts with a large part of their raw material suppliers, or are seeking to finalize the renewals.
The reason for purchasing in advance and at prices higher than last season is, mainly, the low stock of orange juice, which, according to CitrusBR (National Association of Citrus Juice Exporters), should close the current 2022/23 harvest. (in June 2023) at just 140 thousand tons in concentrated equivalent, well below the strategic level of 250 thousand tons.
