First Low Carbon Soy Field Day takes place this Tuesday (3), in Londrina (PR)

The presentation of the technical guidelines for low-carbon soybean certification is the opening theme of the first field day on Technologies for Low-Carbon Soybean Production, to be held tomorrow, September 3, starting at 8:40 a.m., at the Embrapa Soja headquarters in Londrina (PR), for an estimated audience of 150 participants, including producers, technicians, academics and agribusiness professionals. This will be followed by a lecture on the integration of good agricultural practices into the production process.

Starting at 10:20 a.m., the program will be held at the Low Carbon Soybean Program Showcase, with the following arrangements conducted during the off-season: millet, turnip and wheat; corn and Brachiaria ruzziziense; as well as crotalaria ochroleuca and Brachiaria ruzizensis. “The proposal for the field day is to present the results of crop productivity, the dry mass produced, as well as an estimate of the impact on carbon accumulation,” says researcher Henrique Debiasi, from Embrapa Soja. “We have results showing that in Paraná, when introducing Brachiaria intercropped with second-season corn, following soybeans, for example, there was a significant increase in soybean productivity. Profitability was 11% higher than the standard system in the region,” calculates the researcher.

According to Roberta Carnevalli, head of Research and Development at Embrapa Soja, the technical stations will also include presentations on the benefits of inoculation and co-inoculation in soybeans and the use of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) to achieve more sustainable soybean production. The goal is to demonstrate technologies that can contribute to mitigating greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

The event will be held at the Technology Showcase of the Low Carbon Soybean Program (www.sojabaixocarbono.com.br), an initiative by Embrapa Soja with seven supporting companies - Bayer, Bunge, Cargill, Coamo, Cocamar, GDM and UPL - which aims to add value to soybeans produced in systems that contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, responsible for global warming.
