The Federation of Agricultural Cooperatives of the State of Rio Grande do Sul (FecoAgro/RS), in partnership with Embrapa Trigo, is holding a Field Day on Wheat this Friday, October 7th, in Passo Fundo (RS). Technical and commercial representatives from the cooperatives will evaluate, together with the Embrapa team, three areas demonstrating wheat cultivation in the field. The areas are in Coopatrigo, in São Luiz Gonzaga (RS), in Cotricampo, in Campo Novo (RS), and in Coopibi, in Ibiraiaras (RS).
The president of FecoAgro/RS, Paulo Pires, highlights that the objective of this work with wheat in the field is to evaluate the performance of the grain with a more rational practice, for example, in the use of inputs, mainly fewer chemical products. He states that the expectation is that more productive wheat can be obtained, even if it has a lower value, that is not type 1 bread wheat for the domestic market. “It will not need to have all the characteristics needed today for bread wheat. So the big challenge is that if we have an increase in productivity, even at a lower price, this wheat makes the crop's earning potential a little greater”, highlights Pires.
According to the director, there is still no crop harvested from these demonstration units, but in Passo Fundo the context between bread wheat within the State and its supply of merchandise for industries in Rio Grande do Sul will be addressed mainly. Guarantee that the objective of the work is not to take the producer out of here, whatever has quality for type 1 bread wheat that the mills want to absorb, they will continue absorbing. “The idea is to create a new alternative for the producer that somewhere he wants to plant wheat as a commodity for export, with more PH and protein, he will also have a market for it”, highlights Pires.
Wheat Field Day starts at 9 am with a program that will last until the afternoon. In the morning there will be Field Stations with the themes Wheat Management: seed quality and plant arrangements, Wheat Management: nitrogen fertilization, growth reducer and products that promote grain yield, Construction of fertile soil, Opportunities for the use of cereals dual-purpose winter guard, Plant Protection: insect pests and viruses and Plant Protection: fungal diseases.
In the afternoon, starting at 13:30 pm, lectures will be held. The general manager of Embrapa Wheat, Sérgio Roberto Dotto, will address the topic Embrapa and the Challenges for Brazilian Wheat. Afterwards, the president of FecoAgro/RS, Paulo Pires, and consultant Irineu Pedrollo, from I&MP Consultoria, will talk about Marketing Alternatives for Wheat Gaúcho and 2016 Scenarios.
