The 5th Bananiculture Field Day will be held by the Agricultural Research Company of Minas Gerais (EPAMIG), on the 10th, at the Campus of the Federal Institute of Minas Gerais, in Bambuí. Studies will be presented, with 11 varieties of bananas, installed in the last six years, in Três Corações, Maria da Fé, Ijaci and Bambuí.

Techniques for banana cultivation, irrigation and propagation will also be presented. According to EPAMIG researcher, Lair Pereira, the banana cultivars most planted in the south of Minas are: silver dwarf, in the vast majority, nanina or grande naine and apple. Since 2008, research has also been carried out in partnership with Embrapa Fruticultura Tropical.

According to Lair, the work carried out in the EPAMIG Demonstration Units aims to evaluate and select cultivars with better agronomic characteristics, in addition to identifying which species have shorter production cycles and size. "In the four-year period of evaluation, the materials that responded best and could be recommended for producers in the Bambuí region were the cultivars Prata Catarina, Maravilha, Prata Gorutuba and PA 94-01."

The event will feature the participation of producers and researchers who will share their experiences and knowledge in banana farming. Participants will also have the opportunity to learn about the banana cultivar trials installed at IFMG. Registration for the 5th Bananiculture Day is free and can be done at the event location.
