Congress shows ILPF as a strategy for building soil fertility
The topic was presented and discussed in a symposium on Wednesday, the 24th, and was also seen in practice in a technical visit to two rural properties on Friday, the 26th.
The production of food and fiber in “light” sandy soils has stood out in recent years in western Bahia, becoming a region of great importance on the national scene. The municipality of Luís Eduardo Magalhães (BA) is representative of the economic-social development promoted by agriculture, a condition unattainable without the use of fertilizers. However, managing soil fertility and the correct use of fertilizers in light soils is still a challenge, which must be overcome by the appropriate use of technologies and greater knowledge of the topic. All of this served as motivation for holding the IV Fertilizer Workshop, which will take place between the 07th and 09th of August 2019 at the headquarters of the Rural Union of Luís Eduardo Magalhães.
“Embrapa Solos has a history of more than 15 years of operation in the Western Region of Bahia. Our team has carried out several works related to soil management, fertilization and fertilizers, with the main crops in the region: cotton, corn and soybeans” , says Paulo César Teixeira, researcher at Embrapa Soils (Rio de Janeiro-RJ) and one of the event coordinators. It is worth remembering that this area, Matopiba, is of great importance for the country, being our current agricultural frontier.
For the most part, Matopiba is characterized by light soils, with a texture varying from sandy to medium to sandy, with a clay content of up to approximately 20%. “The region was once considered marginal, unsuitable for cultivation, but the adoption of technologies has made it one of the main agricultural hubs in the country”, adds Teixeira.
Embrapa Solos works in partnership with farms, in productive areas, having held field days and events related to phosphate fertilizer, in addition to Soil Builders, which took place in 2018, also in Luís Eduardo Magalhães.
The workshop program was designed to provide in-depth discussion, exposing experimental results, innovations and experiences that enable the appropriate management of fertilizers in light soils, with high productivity and quality and reduced negative environmental impact. Research, company, production and innovation spaces will be at the event, as well as the opportunity to visit production areas in the region.
On the last day of the workshop, a field day takes place at Fazenda Novo Milênio, in which some management techniques, fertilizer application and crop management will be discussed.
