The volume of fertilizers delivered to the Brazilian market in 2024 was 45,61 million tons, a slight decrease of 0,5% compared to 2023, when 45,82 million tons were recorded. The data was released by the National Association for the Diffusion of Fertilizers (Anda), which attributes the reduction to lower agricultural demand in the face of a more modest harvest.
Despite the drop in the year-to-date figure, the month of December showed stability, with delivery of around 3,60 million tonnes — an increase of 0,1% compared to the same month in 2023.
Among the states, Mato Grosso led deliveries in 2024, concentrating 21,4% of the total, equivalent to 9,77 million tons. Next come Rio Grande do Sul (5,12 million), Paraná (5,11 million), São Paulo (4,87 million), Minas Gerais (4,57 million), Goiás (4,30 million) and Bahia (3,03 million).
National production of intermediate fertilizers totaled 7,21 million tons in 2024, an increase of 3,8% compared to the 6,95 million tons produced in 2023. In December alone, the volume produced was 605 thousand tons — an increase of 7,5% compared to the same month of the previous year.
Imports, in turn, reached 41,34 million tons in the year to date. In December, the imported volume was 3,44 million tons.
Responsible for around 25% of total imports, the port of Paranaguá handled 10,34 million tons of fertilizers in 2024, which represents an increase of 9,2% compared to the volume unloaded in 2023 (9,47 million tons), according to data from the Foreign Trade Statistics Monitoring System (Siacesp/MDIC).
On December 31, inventories held by industries totaled 8,32 million tons. At the closing of the annual balance sheet, considering initial inventories, production, imports, exports, addition of additives and deliveries to the market, Anda identified an adjustment of approximately 3,90 million tons. This volume was redistributed to the regular market of mineral fertilizers, industrial use, liquid fertilizers, organomineral fertilizers or still remains in unreported inventories.
