Dry weather and light provided a favorable environment for crop development
FederUnacoma called for greater trade openness and technical integration between Europe and North America during the 41st edition of the EU-North America Conference on Agriculture, held in Como, Italy.
The organization's president, Mariateresa Maschio, stated that technical cooperation is impossible without recognizing demographic and environmental emergencies. She added that it is necessary to follow scientific recommendations and strengthen agricultural trade in the face of competition from emerging countries.
The event brought together more than 250 representatives from the agribusiness sector of the European Union, Canada, Mexico, and the United States. This is a delicate time for transatlantic trade relations. Therefore, the meeting sought to renew political dialogue and reinforce the complementarity between economic systems. Italian Minister of Agriculture Francesco Lollobrigida noted that the sector must, in addition to producing food, protect the environment and rural communities.
FederUnacoma's deputy director, Fabio Ricci, warned of the negative impact of tariffs on agricultural machinery exports to the United States. According to him, trade restrictions jeopardize the revenue of European industries and their ability to invest in research and innovation. They also affect North American farmers, who use European-made technologies, especially for specialized crops such as grapes and fruit.
Cooperation is also advancing in the scientific field, especially in the development of digital technologies. During the "Data and Agriculture" panel, Alessio Bolognesi, head of digital technologies at FederUnacoma, highlighted the importance of data interoperability for advancing mechanization. He explained that the new European regulation, the Data Act, redefines access to agricultural information, guaranteeing greater benefits to producers. He also cited initiatives such as ISOBUS, AgIN, and ADAPT, which promote standardization and connectivity.
For Bolognesi, efficient data exchange between equipment and systems is essential to increasing productivity and sustainability in the field.
