Emater-RS indicates significant losses in soybean crops in Rio Grande do Sul
Increasing losses arise from natural threshing, sprouted and damaged grains, and trail failures, all exacerbated by excess moisture; corn harvest advanced
This Thursday (06), the federal government, through a public purchase auction coordinated by the National Supply Company (Conab), purchased 263,37 thousand tons of imported rice. Around R$1,3 billion was allocated for the purchase, and the volume purchased corresponds to 87,79% of the total 300 thousand tons initially offered. The ordinance authorizing the purchase of imported rice was published in the Official Gazette of the Union (DOU) on May 28, and aims to address the social and economic consequences resulting from extreme weather events in Rio Grande do Sul, the largest national rice producer. .
“The government authorized us to purchase up to 1 million tons of rice, but we will not buy it all at once, it will be staggered according to need. And we will publish the notice to purchase the remaining 36 thousand tons”, reinforced the president of Conab, Edegar Pretto. According to him, if there is no need, the company will not make any more purchases. “But, as long as it is necessary to lower the price for consumers, we will be holding auctions. We want to ensure a product that is very accessible to consumers,” he added.
The rice purchased this week will be delivered in three stages, with the minimum period for supplying the product being 90 days and the maximum being 150 days. Conab purchases the grain from Brazilian companies responsible for imports, so the origin of the product will only be known after the presentation of the Import Document. The expectation is that this information will be available within 15 days.
The auctioned lots went to the states of Bahia, Ceará, Espírito Santo, Goiás, Maranhão, Minas Gerais, Pará, Paraíba, Paraná, Pernambuco and São Paulo. The lots destined for Amazonas, Distrito Federal, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Rondônia, Roraima, Santa Catarina and Tocantins were not sold.
The metropolitan regions foreseen in the notice were defined by Conab based on food insecurity indicators. The rice purchased must be packaged in a 5kg capacity container, transparent and colorless, which allows perfect visualization of the product and with the logo. Buyers must sell the product exclusively to the final consumer, with a maximum price of R$4 per kilo.
The initiative is supported by provisional measures 1217/2024, 1218/2024, 1224/2024 and 1225/2024, in addition to interministerial ordinance 4/2024, from the Ministries of Agrarian Development and Family Agriculture (MDA), Agriculture (Mapa) and Farm (MF).
