Storage on Brazilian rural properties has been increasing in recent years. According to data from the National Storage Unit Registry System (Sicarm), while storage capacity on farms was 20,68 million tons in 2010, this year farmers have a static capacity on their properties of 35,64 million tons - which represents a growth of 72,13% in the period. The data was released this Thursday (5) by the National Supply Company (Conab) during the launch of the 2025 Agrologistics Yearbook.

“Brazilian producers are increasingly recognizing the importance and advantages of having a suitable place to store their produce on their properties. By having a warehouse, farmers gain autonomy to define their sales flow, being able to store part of their produce and wait for more favorable market conditions to make the sale, which contributes to improving their financial results,” emphasizes the Company’s Storage Superintendent, Stelito dos Reis Neto.

The increase in storage on rural properties follows the upward trend in static capacity in Brazil over the last 15 years. However, the average growth rate of static capacity at farm level (3,69%) is higher than the average growth rate of storage in the country (2,86%).

“This shows that producers have invested in these structures and see the advantages for the activity. However, there is still a long way to go, considering that the warehouses located on farms represent only 16,8% of the national static capacity”, ponders the Conab superintendent.

According to Sicarm, Mato Grosso is the state with the highest static capacity at farm level, followed by Bahia, São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Rio Grande do Sul. The state of Mato Grosso recorded a 52,7% growth in storage on rural properties, rising from 9,62 million tons in 2017 to around 14,7 million tons in 2025.

However, when we consider this same period, the highlights are Piauí and Tocantins, two of the states that make up the country's new agricultural frontier, Matopiba. Investments by farmers in Piauí increased static capacity on rural properties from 246,25 tons to 1,77 million tons. In Tocantins, the volume that producers can store increased from 361,59 tons to 1,12 million tons, an increase of 210,54%. Pará, Roraima and São Paulo also recorded significant growth in storage.
