The president of the Agriculture and Livestock Federation of the State of São Paulo (Faesp), Tirso Meirelles (pictured), reiterated his support for the president of the Federation of Paraná, Ágide Eduardo Meneguette, who visited invaded properties in Paraná last week, starting with Fazenda Brilhante, in the municipality of Terra Roxa. For Meirelles, it is vital that the government spheres pay attention to these events, which affect the lives of thousands of families who work to build the country's economy.

In addition to the insecurity that these issues generate throughout the region, the invasions end up harming the planning of the agricultural sector, since they affect the future harvest. According to Meneguette, producers were prevented from planting and the annual impact could reach R$600 million in Gross Production Value and he questioned who will compensate the farmers.

FAESP, as well as all federations, expects the bill that will penalize invaders to be approved. The bill, approved by the Chamber of Deputies, is currently being processed in the Senate. People who invade agricultural land or urban properties will be denied access to government benefits, such as Bolsa-Família and Minha Casa, Minha Vida properties, for eight years; they will not be able to be appointed to public office; they will be removed from land regularization programs; and they will be barred from applying for public exams, among other things.

“We need to punish the invader so that security can return to the countryside. The climate of tension harms the lives of producers, the economy and society,” said Meirelles.
