With the aim of assisting producers in decision-making and providing information to all agents in the agricultural sector, the Federation of Agriculture and Livestock of the State of São Paulo (FAESP) launched the Data Panel, a platform that consolidates important statistics relating to agribusiness, as well as economic analyses, technical bulletins and studies on topics relevant to the sector, which will be periodically updated.
Prepared by FAESP's economic department, the panel is divided into three sections: Economic Indicators, Agricultural Production and Analysis and Publications.
The Economic Indicators section brings together information on prices, production costs, labor market, GDP – Gross Domestic Product, VBP – Gross Production Value, foreign trade and other essential statistics for monitoring the agricultural sector. Data relating to agricultural and livestock production, such as planted area, harvest volume, crop yield and livestock, can be found in the Agricultural Production section, which also has an x-ray of these activities in the state of São Paulo, with mapping of the main municipalities producers. All economic analyses, studies and bulletins prepared by the FAESP Economic Department will be made available in the Analysis and Publications section.
In general, the panel provides reviews of the various production chains of national agribusiness, such as soybeans, corn, cotton, coffee, vegetables, cattle farming, poultry farming and other livestock activities, but prioritizes the State of São Paulo, with information also on chains whose Production is mostly from São Paulo, such as peanuts and oranges.
“The idea is to bring together on the same platform an analytical data system with the purpose of providing knowledge about agribusiness and supporting the strategic decisions of rural producers and other agents in the agricultural sector”, highlights Tirso Meirelles, vice-president of FAESP.
The analyzes contained in the Panel are produced by FAESP, based on statistics collected and published by official research bodies and agribusiness entities, such as the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA), the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (CEPEA ), the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), the National Supply Company (CONAB), the National Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock (CNA) and the Institute of Agricultural Economics (IEA-SAA/SP).
“FAESP collects secondary data from various sources relevant to the sector, processes this data and transforms it into knowledge through this panel, where visualization is facilitated and interactive. After this first layer of data, FAESP will expand research to generate primary, higher frequency data, in order to contribute to market intelligence and guidance for decision-making in the field”, reports Cláudio Brisolara, manager of FAESP's Economic Department.
The Data Panel can be accessed on the official FAESP website.
