The Federation of Agriculture and Livestock of the State of São Paulo (FAESP) sent to the elected vice-president and coordinator of the Transition Group (GT) of the federal government, Geraldo Alckmin, a letter requesting the reconsideration of the proposed split of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA).

“From an administrative perspective, we understand that the unification of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply and the Ministry of Agrarian Development brought many gains to the construction of policies aimed at Brazilian agriculture”, said the president of FAESP, Fábio de Salles Meirelles.

“This measure reduced the shadowing of public policies, optimized financial and human resources and restored the vision of the unity of objectives and purposes of our agriculture, without disregarding the need for different instruments and programs for different scales and profiles of production”, he added. .

The ongoing discussion in the Agriculture GT foresees a new subdivision of MAPA, with the creation of the Ministry of Family Agriculture and Healthy Food and the transfer of programs such as PAA -- Food Acquisition Program and bodies such as ANATER -- National Agency of Technical Assistance and CONAB -- National Supply Company is a factor of concern in the agricultural sector.

“MAPA and its respective bodies, structures and policy instruments can continue to exercise their essential functions in favor of the development of Brazilian agriculture, whether small, medium or large scale. In our view, the split can reduce the efficiency of policies and generate competition between parts of agriculture that are complementary and harmonious”, highlighted the president.

Meirelles ends the document by asking Alckmin to reflect and share the point of view presented by the Federation with the Agricultural Transition GT, hoping for a more in-depth and cautious analysis, reconsidering the decision to subdivide MAPA.
