With the aim of identifying challenges and recommending possible improvements for the Brazilian Rural Insurance Program (PSR), Fundação Getulio Vargas, through the Institute for Innovation in Insurance and Reinsurance (FGV IISR), is developing a line of research on regulation of rural insurance in Brazil. The first results of this line of research will be presented, first hand, in the webinar, which will take place on April 19th, starting at 14pm, on the Zoom Platform, broadcast on FGV's official YouTube channel.
The study coordinator, Felippe Serigati, will present the first results of the research project and then the invited experts will make comments and possible suggestions for the continued development of the studies. So far, representatives from the Central Bank of Brazil, the Ministries of Agriculture and Finance, the Superintendence of Private Insurance (Susep), the International Association of Insurance Law (AIDA) and BrasilSeg have been confirmed.
“Agriculture is an economic activity with a high level of risk and uncertainty, with high exposure to variations in climatic conditions and subject to the recurrent occurrence of pests and diseases. In 2022, agricultural activities generated gross production revenue of R$ 1,2 trillion for Brazil. However, the total value of production insured by the Rural Insurance Program (PSR) was only R$43,9 billion”, said researcher Felippe Serigati.
Considering these challenges, the event will focus on the following questions: why is a rural insurance program important for the country? What is the status of the current program that already exists in Brazil and how can this program be made more effective for the agribusiness universe?
