An exhibition celebrates 90 years of the Niagara Rosada grape. The opening was on July 23rd, at the Pinacoteca Diógenes Duarte Paes, at Rua Barão de Jundiaí, 109 – Centro de Jundiaí. The event opened the 7th Jundiaiense Farmer Week, which runs until July 30th and can be visited from Tuesday to Sunday, always from 10am to 17pm. Entry is free.

In April this year, the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) recognized Jundiahy as a Geographical Indication (GI) for the fruit.

The event also marks the beginning of the celebrations celebrating 130 years of Italian immigration in the Traviú neighborhood. Located on the banks of the Anhanguera Highway, the village was born through the work of a group of immigrants from northern Italy. In 1893, they disembarked in Brazil heading to Fazenda Sete Quedas, in Campinas. Some time later, the group acquired the land that today makes up the neighborhood. At first, they tried to produce coffee, but it was with grapes, whose vines can still be admired there today, that the true vocation of Traviú flourished, which still maintains its traditions strong today.

In 1933, from a spontaneous somatic mutation, amid the production of Niagara Branca, of American origin, the pink variety emerged, exclusive to the Traviú region and recognized with the Jundiahy Geographical Indication, which is the 102nd Brazilian registered with the INPI . Writing with the letters “h” and “y” is justified because, in the past, between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, grape cultivation spread to an immense area of land called Jundiahy. Then the municipalities were separated – Jundiaí, Louveira, Itupeva, Jarinu and Itatiba.

The neighborhood is also part of two Jundiaí Tourist Routes – Italian and Wine – and brings together more than 50 small productive properties. Visitors can watch the production of fruits such as grapes, persimmons, peaches, plums, dragon fruit, as well as vegetables.
