Research addresses socio-environmental certification of soy in Maranhão
The expansion of soybean production has been marked by the incorporation of new areas in agricultural frontier regions, especially in the Matopiba region
The Cooperative Agrarian Agroindustrial promotes between October 16th and 18th the WinterShow 2018. In this edition, an exclusive wheat cultivar for the production of biscuit flour is among the new features. The event, the main technical-scientific winter cereals in Brazil, takes place at FAPA headquarters, in Colônia Vitória, in Guarapuava/PR, from 8 am to 18:30 pm.
Recognized for the quality of its flour production, Cooperativa Agrária Agroindustrial stands out in an important market niche in wheat farming: the production of wheat and flour for biscuits. And for this market, the cultivar was developed TBIO Consistency, a partnership between Biotrigo Genetics and the Agricultural Research Foundation (FAPA). According to Biotrigo's new business manager, Jorge Stachoviack, the cultivar was developed through genetic improvement to serve the Brazilian market, which is the largest producer of cookies in the world. “Cookies are present in 99,7% of Brazilian homes and represent a market of 1 million tons of wheat for this segment alone. This represents a large demand for wheat for biscuit production purposes since the majority of wheat is intended for bread production. The annual demand for wheat for consumption in Brazil is 11 million tons (2017) and of this amount, 10% is destined for the manufacture of biscuits”, he highlights.
In this first year of the project, Agrária members sowed around 3 thousand hectares of the cultivar, but for the 2019 winter harvest, the area should triple, reaching up to 10 thousand hectares. Jorge explains the intention is to provide greater profitability on winter wheat production through the production project for the segregated TBIO Consistency cultivar. “The separation of wheat for biscuits from the farm, according to the characteristics required by the industry, helps to provide liquidity to the cereal, in addition to generating greater financial returns for the farmer”, he explains. Among its agronomic characteristics, the variety has a medium late cycle, high resistance to FHB, excellent production ceiling and leaf health.
Tech stations
The Biotrigo stand will also showcase other new products from the Biotrigo portfolio open to the market for the cultivation of wheat multipliers and producers. A specific cultivar for feeding beef and dairy cattle (TBIO Energy) and others with an early cycle (TBIO Audaz), super early cycle (TBIO Sonic) and whitener (TBIO Duque). The main launch of the portfolio for the 2019/2020 harvest is medium/late cycle wheat. According to Biotrigo's commercial supervisor, Deodato Matias Junior, TBIO Ponteiro enters the market to open wheat sowing by combining earlier cultivars and to add the already known agronomic characteristics of wheat. TBIO Sinuelo.
“TBIO Ponteiro has the same cycle and productivity standard, industrial quality and resistance to lodging, but with notable differences, such as the health of both leaves and cobs, tolerance to toxic aluminum in years of drought and superior industrial quality to its predecessor. , with a W of 298 compared to Sinuelo, which has a W of 258. Just to give you an idea of the productive potential of this release, in Paraná, the average productivity in the trials was 4.500 kg/ha, with the potential to reach 6.500 kg/ha ha”, reinforces Deodato. The new technology, which is recommended for regions 1, 2 and 3 of Paraná, will be multiplied in 2019 and commercialized in 2020.
Herbicide resistant wheat (CL)
The first herbicide-resistant wheat that combats crop-specific weeds will also be among the WinterShow's new offerings. The new cultivar, which is the result of a partnership between Basf and Biotrigo, incorporates Clearfield technology - already adopted in more than 80% of the country's rice growing areas. According to Jorge, CL wheat, is derived from the TBIO Sinuelo cultivar - one of the most sown materials in Brazil in recent years - and brings agronomic characteristics very close to this one. “With technology, farmers can carry out more assertive management in areas with ryegrass and turnip infestations, for example, which are very common weeds in wheat crops in Paraná. Thus, it avoids competition between the weed and the crop, being able to achieve greater productivity, grain quality and profitability, in addition to also benefiting summer crops”, he says.
