The Gross Value of Agricultural Production (VBP) in Minas Gerais is expected to reach a record R$168,3 billion in 2025, a 14,3% increase compared to the previous year. The indicator is an estimate of income generation in rural areas, calculated by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA), based on data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), the National Supply Company (CONAB), and the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea/USP).

The strong performance is driven by the crop sector, which is expected to reach R$113,5 billion, a 17,8% increase this year. This sector alone accounts for 67% of Minas Gerais' agricultural revenue.

"The increase in yield in some crops has been decisive for this result, especially coffee, which registered an increase of 48,5% and has an estimated VBP of R$59,1 billion," says Amanda Bianchi, technical advisor at the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Seapa-MG).

The GVP of soybeans, which ranks second in the agricultural sector, is expected to reach R$18,4 billion, a 9,9% increase compared to last year. "Soybean prices rose in the domestic market in August, reflecting the fierce competition between Brazilian crushing industries and international demand, especially from China," explains the technical advisor at Seapa-MG.

Still within the crop segment, corn (20,2%), tomatoes (18,2%), cotton (15,8%), wheat (14,3%), peanuts (8,2%) and grapes (1,3%) are also on the rise. Together with coffee, these products account for 79% of total crop revenue.
