The 2021/2022 Harvest Plan has a total of R$251,22 billion in rural credit. In eight months of the harvest – July 2021 to February 2022 – more than 1200 rural credit contracts were financed, worth R$ 188,4 billion, which represents a growth of 30% compared to the same period of the harvest 2020/2021. Despite the significant amount, rural credit from public sources is not enough to meet all the demands of Brazilian agribusiness. As a result, the sector needs to seek resources in the financial and capital markets.

In this sense, there is an increasing demand from national and international investors and banks that agricultural activities are aligned with good human development, that is, that they meet international concepts of corporate, environmental and social governance (ESG - Environmental, Social and Governance).

To provide an assessment of ESG, with a look at all pillars, the 2nd Brazilian Congress of Agribusiness Law (CBDA) will feature the panel Private Credit, Insurance and ESG. The event by the Brazilian Institute of Agribusiness Law (IBDA) will take place on April 6, in a virtual format. Registration is free and can be done at official website

The panel will also discuss mechanisms that ensure greater protection for producers of one of the supporters of global food security. It is also important to remember that recent years have demonstrated that crop losses are very serious and must always be considered and avoided, in the best possible way, from the resources and impacts of Brazilian rural producers.

Among the debaters are Fabiana Alves, director of the Brazilian Agribusiness Association (ABAG) and executive director of Rabobank Brasil; Fernando Rodriguez Uslenghi, director of Control Union Brasil; lawyer Gisele Cecatto, Corporate Sustainability consultant; and Rogério Boueri, Undersecretary of Agricultural Policy at the Ministry of Economy. Tiago Lessa, partner at Pinheiro Neto Advogados, will moderate the debate.

Composed of three more panels: Licensing and Environmental Compliance; Land regularization; Agricultural Pesticides, the Congress will highlight the importance of debating the legal and regulatory challenges of Agroindustrial Systems (SAGs), in order to sustain the competitiveness of the sector in a global economy and support its market and technological development.
