With the growth of the biological market, USP/ESALQ, a university recognized among the five best in the world in Agricultural Sciences, has just launched the Diffusion Course: Biological Pest Control, sponsored by CropLife Brasil (CLB) - an association that works in the research and development of technologies for sustainable agricultural production. The training aims to disseminate knowledge about biological control to professionals interested in the area.

“In 2021, the biological market grew 35%, reaching revenues of around R$1,9 billion, according to consultancy IHS Markit. From this data, we were able to understand the importance and magnitude of expanding knowledge on the topic. Therefore, we teamed up with USP/ESALQ to provide rich content, which will enhance understanding of biological pest control and offer expertise that will differentiate these students from the market”, comments Christian Lohbauer, Executive President of CropLife Brasil.

Presenting an efficient system for crop protection, the USP/ESALQ Diffusion Course will address how biological control is essential within integrated pest management. In addition to raising debates on how the practice favors sustainable and high-productivity agriculture. It is of great interest to agronomists and forestry engineers, biologists, environmental managers and other interested parties working in the sector.

The Diffusion Course is certified by the "Luiz de Queiroz" College of Agriculture - USP/ESALQ and has a 50-hour schedule of content in seven different modules. Addressing various topics, such as Parasitoids and predators; Predatory mites; Entomopathogens; Creation of natural enemies and production of entomopathogens; Pest monitoring and release of biological control agents; Biological pest control programs; and Legislation.

“The course was designed for those who develop, apply and disseminate biological control, and aimed at professionals and students who want to know more about the subject. It covers knowledge of biological control agents, their creation and multiplication, pest monitoring, release of natural enemies, biological control programs and legislation. It is a USP/Esalq certified course, completely online and with expert teachers in the area. Ultimately, an in-depth, comprehensive and complete program”, comments Prof. Dr. Pedro Takao Yamamoto, coordinator of the postgraduate course in Entomology at USP/ESALQ, responsible for methodizing the course.

Classified as a Diffusion Course, no prior degree is required for those interested. In an online and live format, classes take place once a week and students can have access to recordings. The start will be on 05/10/2022, lasting four months. Registration will be open until September 28th.
