From December 7th to 9th, Cruz das Almas (BA) will host the V Brazilian Workshop on Epidemiology of Plant Diseases (EpidemioBrasil), held by Embrapa Mandioca e Fruticultura, Unit of the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation – Embrapa, linked to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, State Agricultural Defense Agency of Bahia (Adab), Federal University of Recôncavo da Bahia (UFRB), Executive Committee of the Cocoa Farming Plan (Ceplac) and State University of Santa Cruz (Uesc).
The objective of the event is to bring together students, researchers and professionals in the field of Plant Disease Epidemiology from Brazil and other countries, to discuss strategies to overcome diseases that affect plants on a local and regional scale. The main theme will be "Landscape Epidemiology", which means the study of how plant diseases spread in a region, not just in localized plantations.
According to researcher Francisco Laranjeira, deputy head of Research & Development at Embrapa Mandioca e Fruticultura and president of the organizing committee, the event is non-profit and all participants pay their registration fee, even the speakers and members of the organizing committee. "EpidemioBrasil focuses on the exchange of knowledge, especially between the most experienced and the youngest", he explains. 70 people are expected, including professionals and students in the field.
Agenda
Lectures and oral and poster presentations will cover the full range of research topics, such as quarantine intelligence, landscape epidemiology, regional plant disease management and statistical methods.
