The Minas Gerais Agricultural Research Company (Epamig) has started selling quality seeds for the formation of coffee seedlings of the Coffea arabica L. species.
Sales are made during the harvest period, between the months of May and August, and the cultivars offered vary between Epamig's experimental fields, located in Três Pontas, Machado and São Sebastião do Paraíso, in the South of Minas, and in Patrocínio, in Alto Paranaíba.
“The seeds offered deliver a high germination rate and quality, the result of fundamental processes carried out. We comply with the protocols required by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa), focused on the selection of ripe fruits, careful harvesting, cleaning, drying of seeds and extra attention to ensure that there is no mixing between cultivars”, highlights Epamig researcher Vanessa Figueiredo.
Another protocol followed is seed analysis, which consists of sending a sample of all batches to be sold to a laboratory accredited by Mapa.
The objective is to carry out purity and germination tests, in addition to assessing compliance with requirements related to documentation and traceability of materials.
“All of these standards ensure that the seeds produced meet the quality standards and norms required for cultivation, contributing to more efficient and sustainable production,” adds the researcher.
Purchases of seeds for the formation of coffee seedlings can be made in person, at Epamig's Experimental Fields, or by email and telephone. Interested parties can choose to have the seeds delivered in person or by mail.
All cultivars sold by Epamig are registered in the National Cultivar Registry (RNC) and any agent involved in this process, whether an individual or legal entity, must be registered in the National Seed and Seedling Registry (Renasem).
