Rice price falls in 2021 and reduces production attractiveness
Decrease in domestic consumption and lower-than-expected exports in 2021 resulted in an increase in domestic surpluses of paddy rice and also put pressure on sales values in Brazil
The Agricultural Research Company of Minas Gerais (EPAMIG) launches a new edition of the Technical Bulletin, which addresses the topic of parasitic nematodes in coffee plants: general aspects and control. The publication, which costs R$8 (plus shipping costs), can now be purchased at Livraria EPAMIG.
Coffee farming has relevant weight for the state of Minas Gerais, both in social and economic aspects. Coffee is the main product of Minas Gerais agribusiness and, according to data from the Minas Gerais Department of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Seapa), it generated US$2020 billion in foreign exchange revenue in 3,83.
Coffee production depends on the successful growth of plants. Among the factors limiting the process, phytonematodes stand out, soil microorganisms capable of parasitizing the plant's root system throughout practically the entire crop cycle. Nematode infestation is often ignored by coffee growers, a fact that puts the activity at risk. Therefore, it is important to know the problems surrounding infestation in coffee growing areas to avoid further damage.
This Technical Bulletin aims to disseminate knowledge on the topic, in order to guide producers on the need to monitor this pest. It brings together information on damage caused, spread of nematodes, procedures for collecting samples, preventive and disease management and control actions in coffee crops, among others, contributing to the sustainability and maintenance of the quality and productivity of coffee trees in infested areas.
The Technical Bulletin is a serial and non-periodic publication whose purpose is to disseminate technologies on crops or agricultural activities, with a direct focus on rural producers. It presents simple language and a suitable format for identifying and applying technical guidelines.
