The Minas Gerais Agricultural Research Company (EPAMIG) is promoting next Monday, June 20th, at 9:30 am, the ceremony for the implementation of the first Higher Education Course in Precision Agriculture offered in Brazil. The ceremony will be held in the amphitheater of the Technical Institute of Agriculture and Cooperativism (ITAC) in Pitangui, which will be renamed the Technological Institute of Agriculture of Pitangui (EPAMIG/ITAP).
The selection process for the first class of the Precision Agriculture course is in effect until July 1st. Interested parties can register via the website http://www.epamig.br/itac/processoseletivo/. The selection will consider the grade obtained by the candidate in the National High School Exam (ENEM) in the 2019, 2020 or 2021 editions.
In December 2021, EPAMIG educational institutes were accredited by the Minas Gerais State Education Council (CEE-MG) to offer undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The option, initially, was to implement courses in Technology in Precision Agriculture, in Pitangui, and Technology in Dairy, offered by EPAMIG/ Instituto de Laticínios Cândido Tostes, in Juiz de Fora (information here).
The CEO of EPAMIG, Nilda Ferreira Soares, believes that this new stage will bring positive impacts to the Company as a whole. “This is a milestone for the integration between research and teaching, two activities that complement each other”, she states. Regarding the course in Pitangui, Nilda highlights that it is an unprecedented topic, which will offer students a differentiated training. “The syllabus includes theoretical and practical content focused on the most modern concepts of precision agriculture and livestock farming, with the aim of training professionals with profiles suited to the current and future demands of agribusiness in Minas Gerais and Brazil”, she adds.
The director of EPAMIG/ITAP, Frederico Passos, believes that the Institute is well structured for this new moment. “Given the group of teachers, pedagogical proposal, physical facilities, the school farm and equipment in the acquisition phase, there is no doubt that EPAMIG ITAP will offer the Precision Agriculture higher education course in a motivating and creative format, with excellent quality and efficiency”, guarantees the professor, who was pro-rector of Education at the Federal University of Viçosa, for two periods.
