World Coffee Day is celebrated on April 14 to celebrate the second most consumed drink in the world, second only to water. To mark this important date, the Agricultural Research Company of Minas Gerais (Epamig) presents the details of the program of the 26th edition of Expocafé, the main exhibition of machines and technologies for coffee growing in Brazil, which will be held between the 17th and 19th of May, at the Company's Experimental Field in Três Pontas, in the south of the state.

The Epamig researcher, and one of the fair's technical coordinators, Vanda Cornélio, highlights the importance of activities parallel to the machinery exhibitions, for the development of coffee farming as a whole.

“We always like to emphasize that one of the great differences of Expocafé is its technical programming, as visitors have the opportunity to learn a lot about research, technologies and processes in the coffee chain, in addition to exploring thought-provoking sensory experiences and accessing the most updated about culture”, he highlights.

Symposium, technical stands and machine dynamics

On May 16th, the day before the opening of the fair, the 5th Symposium on Mechanization of Coffee Farming will take place, which this year will feature lectures on various topics, such as soil management for high productivity, updated cultivar results, biological control of pests such as the leaf miner, among others. Registration will be done on site and a fee will be charged.

During the days of the fair (17, 18 and 19/5), Epamig will be present with its stand, where visitors and producers will be able to taste special coffees from the cultivars MGS Paraíso 2, MGS Aranãs and Catiguá MG2, in addition to answering questions with expert researchers of the Company and learn more about recent technologies for coffee growing. The Technical Assistance and Rural Extension Company of the State of Minas Gerais (Emater-MG), the Coffee Growers Cooperative of the Três Pontas Zone (Cocatrel) and UFLA will also have their own stands during the three-day event.

On the afternoon of 17/5 and throughout the day on 18/5, the traditional Machine Dynamics take place on Epamig's coffee plantations, in its Experimental Field of Três Pontas. Participating companies will carry out practical demonstrations of machines so that participants have the opportunity to monitor their operation on site and ask questions about adjustment and maintenance.

“To date, we have 124 companies confirmed for the fair and the tendency is for this number to increase. Our expectation is to generate around 400 million reais in business, such as the sale of machines and the sale of inputs. We hope that there will be an expansion of contact networks with buyers from Brazil and abroad, and we expect to surpass the audience of the last edition, which was approximately 15 thousand visitors”, says Clenderson Corradi, head of Epamig's Agricultural Business Advisory and general coordinator of the event.

During the dynamic, Epamig will present its technological showcase, with 19 coffee cultivars of the Coffea arabica L. species, with the aim of showing the diversity of its materials with desirable agronomic characteristics, developed for different regions of the state. There will also be presentations of scientific work at different stations throughout the farm, with the presence of researchers from the Company, teachers and students from UFLA and technicians from Emater-MG.
