Epagri teams in Xanxerê, Xaxim, Lajeado Grande and Marema, in the west of Santa Catarina, are promoting a theoretical-practical course on grape production, which started in March and runs until October. The training aims to develop and improve vine cultivation in the region.
During the course, producers are learning the most appropriate cultivation techniques for the region, aiming to obtain productive cultivation areas and quality grapes. According to Thiago Marchi, rural extensionist at Epagri in Lajeado Grande responsible for the event, the training is aimed at farmers who cultivate or intend to start cultivating vines, both for fresh consumption and for processing.
The course content was divided into three stages, which have a theoretical part and a practical part:
– the first was held in March, in Marema, in which 28 farmers participated. The following topics were covered on the day: vineyard planning, soil preparation and correction, fertilization and nutrition, green soil cover, training systems, scion cultivars and rootstocks;
– the second stage will be in Lajeado Grande, in July, and will cover the topics: planting, pruning and training, winter treatments and grafting;
– the last stage will take place in Xaxim, in October, when the topics will be covered: green pruning, phytosanitary treatments, harvesting and marketing.
According to Thiago, producers who did not participate in the first stage will be able to participate in the others, just look for Epagri in their municipality.
