Working group evaluates impacts of technologies in areas producing parsnips, garlic and tomatoes
Working group checks on site the achievement of goals set out in research projects
The participation of agribusiness in the Brazilian economy is significant, as the country is the largest in Latin America and has ideal conditions for agro-industrial production. According to research carried out by the Brazilian Seed and Seedling Trade Association - ABCSEM, the horticulture sector (production of fruits, vegetables, trees, shrubs and flowers) is responsible for employing 2,4 million people and moving around 100 billion real. However, even though production has increased considerably in recent years, the mechanization of the sector remains stagnant.
In this context, the correct supply of water becomes extremely important, ensuring soil fertility and adequate growth of agricultural products. With this in mind, Mechanical Engineering students from Centro Universitário FEI developed the Irrigar project, which arises with the proposal to facilitate access to water for small and medium-sized farmers. To this end, a wind vane is designed that uses wind energy to drive a mechanical system for pumping water from difficult-to-access locations, such as wells.
