El Niño already affects climate in corn-producing areas
In Paraná, the impact of the climate phenomenon could affect productivity in the eastern and central regions of the state
Embrapa will be present at the Bahia Farm Show. The largest agricultural technology fair in the North and Northeast of Brazil starts this Tuesday (06/06) and continues until Saturday (10/06), in Luís Eduardo Magalhães (BA). The event is organized by Aiba and the Aiba Institute (Association of Farmers and Irrigators of Bahia). Technologies developed by Embrapa Cerrados, Embrapa Algodão, Embrapa Hortaliças and Embrapa Meio Ambiente will be presented at the fair.
At the Embrapa stand, visitors will be able to see a display with soybean and cotton cultivars. The soybean cultivar BRS 8383 IPRO, developed by Embrapa Cerrados in partnership with Fundação Bahia, will be presented. Selected in the conditions of Western Bahia, it is a variety with a medium cycle (120 to 134 days), an indeterminate growth habit, with a high production ceiling and production stability even in drought conditions and high temperatures, demonstrating great rusticity. It is recommended for planting in the MATOPIBA region (Cerrado do Maranhão, Tocantins, Piauí and Bahia) and in Mato Grosso.
The transgenic cotton cultivar BRS 600 B3RF, developed through the Embrapa-IST Brasil (International Seed Technology Brazil) partnership, will also be presented. The material has resistance to a broad spectrum of caterpillar species and tolerance to the herbicide glyphosate. It is of medium size and cycle, with emphasis on the rapid formation of fruits in the lower and middle thirds of the plant. It is adapted to the Cerrado and Caatinga environments, with indication for use in all producing states, whether in harvest or off-season cultivation. It is a cultivar with high productive potential, capable of exceeding 7000 kg/ha of seed cotton, with an average fiber yield of 41% and fibers that fully meet the standards required by the market. The cultivar will be made available to producers by IST Brasil.
Embrapa's stand will also showcase the Auras bioinput, made from the bacteria Bacillus aryabhattai. The product is capable of reducing the effects caused by prolonged droughts, minimizing risks and expressing the potential of crops. It is already used in corn to combat water stress in plants and is being tested in crops such as soybeans and beans. Technology resulting from more than 12 years of research, it was developed by Embrapa Meio Ambiente (Jaguariúna, SP) in partnership with the company NOOA Ciência e Tecnologia Agrícola (Patos de Minas, MG) and has no competitors registered with the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock ( Map).
Embrapa Hortaliças will present the biofertilizer for foliar application based on carbon nanoparticles (Arbolina). The product has properties that enhance photosynthetic activity to increase the efficiency of production systems. Composed mainly of carbon (47%), nitrogen (17%) and hydrogen (4%), based on Arbolina nanotechnology, the biostimulant is recommended for tomato and strawberry production and can be applied via foliar sprays. A representative from Krilltech, a partner in this technology, will be present at the fair to detail the benefits for the public.
The stand will also feature information related to forage crops, Crop-Livestock-Forest Integration (ILPF), pitayas and passion fruit. Researchers and technicians will be available to interested parties to answer questions about the technologies. The space will also have a technical team from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) that will be able to pass on information about the organization's reference programs, especially those linked to the Secretariat of Innovation, Sustainable Development, Irrigation and Cooperatives.
