Soybean crops in Rio Grande do Sul show symptoms of water deficit
Despite this, in irrigated areas and where rainfall was higher, crops developed very well.
Cultivars in grains, forages and vegetables, soil management and bio-inputs are the major themes presented by Embrapa at Expodireto Cotrijal, which takes place from March 4th to 8th, in Não-Me-Toque, RS. There will be more than 60 technologies developed by eight units of the company. The company's theme for the event will be “Innovation that feeds and moves Brazil”.
According to the Head of Technology Transfer at Embrapa Trigo, Giovani Faé, Embrapa has participated in the fair since the first edition: “It has been 24 years of taking research knowledge to producers, in a direct channel provided by the fair. Over the years, the number of technologies presented has grown, as well as the number of professionals involved, bringing experts from various Embrapa units spread across Brazil to the fair.” For him, participation in the event seeks to disseminate concepts related to sustainability in agriculture, environmental conservation and income generation.
“This is the focus of Embrapa’s participation this year, with technologies that support the economic-social-environmental tripod. Various cultivar options for beans, soybeans, corn, sorghum, wheat, triticale, barley, millet, oats, clover, sudan grass, cornichão, ryegrass, brachiaria, panicum and sweet potatoes will be on display. We will also present dynamics for storing water in the soil, in addition to reinforcing our commitment to Operation 365, with alternatives to cover the soil 365 days of the year. Furthermore, Embrapa professionals will help the producer and provide technical assistance in forage planning, control of invasives in pastures, control of corn leafhoppers and use of bio-inputs. There will be five days of great exchange of knowledge”, he concludes.
Embrapa participates in Expodireto Cotrijal 2024 with approximately 30 professionals from eight of the company's units: Rice and Beans (Santo Antônio da Goiás, GO), Temperate Clima (Pelotas, RS), Beef Cattle (Campo Grande, MS), Cattle of Milk (Juiz de Fora, MG), Corn and Sorghum (Sete Lagoas, MG), Southern Livestock (Bagé, RS), Soy (Londrina, PR) and Wheat (Passo Fundo, RS).
In soybeans, eight cultivars with RR, IPRO and XTD technology will be in the field. The new product is the BRS 1056IPRO, the latest launch from Embrapa Soja and Fundação Meridional, which combines productivity and health, with resistance to brown stem rot and root rot of Phytophthora.
For the winter, the highlight is the ultra-early forage barley BRS Entressafras (BRS CVA118), developed to cover the autumn void after the soybean harvest in the South Region. Another novelty is the BRS TR271 wheat with an early cycle, which is tolerant to lodging, resistance to the main crop diseases and technological quality characteristics desired by the bakery industry.
In corn pest control, alternatives presented at the fair include millet and sorghum cultivars, which are not affected by leafhoppers and can be used as production and rotation strategies. Embrapa Milho e Sorgo will show at the fair five cultivars of sorghum (forage or grain), one of millet and one of green corn.
For the recovery of degraded pastures, Embrapa Pecuária Sul, in partnership with Grazmec, brings to Expodireto the selective herbicide applicator “Campo Limpo” that selectively controls undesirable grasses such as Annoni grass and Razor grass, in addition to toxic broad-leaved plants such as maria-mole/flor-das-almas and mio-mio.
Always a guaranteed success at the fair, are the sweet potatoes presented by Embrapa Clima Temperado. In this edition, visitors will be able to see the set of colorful and biofortified sweet potatoes with the presentation of the orange-fleshed cultivars CIP BRS Nuti and BRS Amélia, and the purple-fleshed BRS Cotinga and BRS Anembé.
Brazil occupies a prominent place on the world stage as one of the largest producers of common beans, an important source of protein in the diet of the Brazilian population. During Expodireto, Embrapa Arroz e Feijão will present six bean cultivars. The novelty is the carioca bean cultivar BRS FC414, which has commercial, industrial and culinary quality, with broad ability to adapt to the different sowing seasons in Brazil.
Also on display is the MS-CR seeder and fertilizer machine developed by IKEDA in partnership with Embrapa, which distributes seeds, fertilizers and soil improvers by broadcast.
Embrapa participates in the promotion of the 8th State Soil and Water Conservation Forum, on the 5th; and the 19th State Milk Forum, on the 6th.
