Embrapa launches two cultivars during Expodireto Cotrijal 2020. The BRS 5804RR soybean and the URS BRS Mesclador red clover will be presented during the fair, which takes place from March 2 to 6, in Não-Me-Toque, RS. The launch ceremony is scheduled for the first day of Expodireto, March 2, at 11:30 am, at the Embrapa stand.
BRS 5804RR soybean was developed at Embrapa Trigo as an alternative to one of the main problems in soybean cultivation in the South Region: phytophthora root rot, which results in the death of plants in the initial phase of farming. The cultivar is resistant to the disease, which occurs mainly in soils with excess moisture and areas without crop rotation. Another differentiator of BRS 5804RR soybeans is the sowing width, adapted to planting both at the beginning and end of the recommended season, when it demonstrated a significant difference in productivity. The yield potential is greater than 100 bags per hectare, with indication for cultivation in the states of RS, SC, cold regions of PR and SP.
URS BRS Mesclador is the first red clover cultivar developed in Brazil, through a partnership between Embrapa Pecuária Sul, the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) and the South-Brazilian Association for the Promotion of Research in Forages (Sulpasto ). Recommended for the formation of intercropped cultivated pastures and for overseeding in natural pastures in the South Region, the cultivar can increase the quality of these pastures due to its high nutritional value (good digestibility and high protein content). Furthermore, as it is a legume, through symbiosis with bacteria of the genus Rhizobium, it fixes atmospheric nitrogen, reducing the need for nitrogen fertilizers over time.
Embrapa presents more than 60 technologies at Expodireto in the showcase and at the institutional stand. There are several grain options, with cultivars of beans, soybeans (conventional and transgenic), sorghum, corn and wheat. In the forage area, cultivars of sudan grass, elephant grass, cornichão, clovers (white, red, vesicular), millet, sorghum (silage and forage), panicum and brachiaria will be on display. Potato and fruit cultivars will also be presented.
In pig and poultry farming, Embrapa takes the Mobile Stand to Expodireto, a van adapted to serve the public where information will be passed on about the treatment of effluents from pig farming, well-being and health in pig farming and commercial poultry farming, in addition to of technologies for the correct disposal of carcasses of dead animals on the farm.
In addition to the various options in the field for crop-livestock integration, Embrapa will make the ILPF virtual reality experience available at the fair, where visitors can learn more about the integrated systems in an interactive and playful way.
