The second edition of the book “Liming and fertilization recommendations for pineapple, acerola, banana, citrus, papaya, cassava, mango and passion fruit” has just been made available by Embrapa Mandioca e Fruticultura (Cruz das Almas, BA).

Researcher Ana Lúcia Borges, technical editor of the book, explains the origin of the publication: “Normally, the States of the Federation have their liming and fertilization recommendation manuals containing tables of recommendations for the use of corrective agents and fertilizers. As the state of Bahia has not updated its manual since 1989, the Unit's soil team felt the need to systematize the information for liming and fertilization recommendations for the crops researched by Embrapa Mandioca e Fruticultura, corresponding to seven fruit and cassava plants.

Thus, in 2009, the first edition of the book was published, which is Embrapa's contribution to the state of Bahia to update the “Liming and fertilization recommendation manual for the state”. The objective of the book was to promote the correct fertilization of crops based on their needs and the nutrient content in the soil and the plant. Twelve years after the first edition, due to new research results and the development of new varieties with their specific fertilization recommendations, the second edition, updated and expanded, was made available.

Content

Aimed at farmers, technical assistance agents, students, teachers and researchers, the publication was written by retired technical staff and researchers from Embrapa Mandioca e Fruticultura, researchers from Embrapa Digital Agriculture and Embrapa Agrobiology and professors from the Federal University of Recôncavo da Bahia (UFRB) and the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ).

In relation to the first edition, the book brings new fertilizer recommendation tables, for example, for pineapple and banana varieties, and three new chapters: “Soil agricultural suitability”, “Climatic risks” and “Mineral, organic and organomineral fertilizers ”.
