Fundecitrus holds HLB course in Olímpia
Citrus growers will be trained to treat the disease efficiently and economically
The event will be held in the experimental fields of Embrapa Pecuária Sul, in Bagé (RS), in seven stations, where experiments will be presented in lowlands in areas such as Crop-Livestock Integration, genetic improvement of rice and irrigation management; implementation and management of BRS Estribo sudangrass and certified seeds. The Field Day starts at 8 am and is expected to end at noon.
The objective of the event is to show, in addition to traditional rice cultivation, economic alternatives for lowlands, enabling producers to make better use of these areas. According to Embrapa Pecuária Sul analyst Marcelo Pilon, the results currently obtained in floodplain areas will be presented at the Field Day, which can serve as a possibility for optimizing rice cultivation, seeking to add more income to the producer.
In one of the Embrapa Pecuária Sul stations, presented by researcher Gustavo Martins da Silva and analyst Marcelo Pilon, Crop-Livestock Integration will be discussed, an activity that can be further explored by rice producers. This season it will be possible to check out a crop rotation system of white clover with irrigated rice. “We established a white clover seedbed, aiming to collect seeds. Then we started grazing the animals and then rice was cultivated”, says the researcher. According to Gustavo Silva, for anyone who wants to implement this system, which generated significant additional gains, good planning on the part of the producer is necessary.
Another Embrapa station will discuss the implementation and management of BRS Estribo sudangrass in lowlands, presented by researcher Danilo Sant´Anna. Sudan grass is a summer grass and another alternative for crop rotation in lowlands. The BRS Estribo cultivar, developed by Embrapa Pecuária Sul, has demonstrated excellent performance in animal feeding and management recommendations will be presented during the season with the aim of obtaining the best yield in low-lying land areas.
One technology that will be presented at the Field Day will be the use of the Larga Base Camalhão, a technology developed by Embrapa that provides an alternative for crop rotation in lowlands. The use of this technology makes it possible to use the floodplain for the cultivation of other grains, such as corn and soybeans, and forage crops, minimizing the risk of losses due to flooding due to rain. Embrapa Clima Temperado also presents another station, showing the company's genetic improvement and irrigation management for rice.
Irga will have two stations. One of them will feature the theme Certified Irrigated Rice Seeds, “aiming to show the physiological and genetic advantages of using certified seed instead of the well-known 'white bag' seed”, highlights Juliano Brum de Quevedo, responsible for the 24th Technical Assistance and Extension Center Rural do Irga. The Institute's other station will address Genetic Improvement, its objectives, advances and perspectives. In addition, the Irga Cultivares Showcase will be available to producers, as well as materials from Rice Tec that will be launched.
