Three transgenic cultivars with high productive potential and advantages for production systems in the Cerrado region will be presented by Embrapa Cerrados (DF) at the Field Day of the 2023 AgroBrasília Soybean Cultivar Competition on February 17th, starting at 8am , at Triacca Farm, located in PAD-DF, Federal District. Entry is free.
According to the organizers, the cultivar competition is one of AgroBrasília's reference activities, enabling farmers to evaluate the productive potential of cultivars and observe the quality of root development and the genetic variety of the seeds. This year, 20 companies participate with 68 registered cultivars. The materials were planted in the same period – from November 9 to 14, 2022 – in an area of 15 hectares. The results will be announced during the fair, which will be held from May 23rd to 27th.
Researcher André Ferreira, coordinator of Embrapa's soybean genetic improvement program for Central-North Brazil, highlights that the event is an opportunity to present producers with new varieties from the research company, showing highly productive materials adapted to the production scenario. current production in the country and different regional conditions. “The producer whether or not he intends to go off-season has cultivars with high natural defensiveness and which will adapt very well to the necessary planting windows, with appropriate cycles, delivering high production potential”, he comments.
Of the three cultivars that will be presented by Embrapa Cerrados, two were launched at the end of 2021 and another should be launched later this year. The varieties were developed in partnership with Fundação Cerrados and Fundação Bahia.
BRS 7080IPRO is a cultivar with a super early cycle (95 to 100 days) and with tolerance to the root-knot nematode Meloydogine javanica. It is recommended for the Federal District, Southwest of Goiás, West of Bahia and Mato Grosso. “In addition to the production potential, it is a material that will help producers in areas with M. javanica. And because it has a very early cycle, it makes it possible to plan the second harvest with corn or another crop, depending on the region, such as cotton in the case of Mato Grosso”, explains Ferreira.
The BRS 7482RR cultivar has a cycle of between 105 and 110 days depending on the region, is resistant to the herbicide glyphosate and also allows for a second harvest. “In Western Bahia, we planted the material in pivot areas, which made it possible to grow cotton in the second post-irrigation harvest,” recalls the researcher.
BRS 7981IPRO should be launched in 2023. The cultivar has a cycle of 115 to 120 days, depending on the region, and is recommended for Western Bahia and Mato Grosso. “It is a material with plant architecture that facilitates the management of pests, diseases and weeds in areas”, observes Ferreira.
In addition to Embrapa, the companies participating in the cultivar competition are Araguaia, Basf (Credenz), Basf S/A (Soytech Sementes), Bayer, Cordius, Corteva, Dimiagro, Dois Marcos Sementes, Equilíbrio, FTS Sementes S/A, GMS, Golden Harvest, Inquima, Koopert, Nidera Sementes, Nutrien, Polli Fertilizandos, Syngenta, and Triunfo Sementes.
