Held by Embrapa, Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology Baiano – IF Baiano, campus Senhor do Bonfim (BA), Semiarid Technology Center and Research and Extension Center (Nupex) of the Piemonte da Diamantina Territory, the event aims to disseminate the grafting method for propagating fruit plants among producers, nurseries, researchers, students and other interested parties.

Grafting is a technique that consists of implanting part of a plant into another plant of the same or different species. The main advantage of the grafted seedling is related to the guarantee of maintenance of the characteristics of the propagated plant, which is not possible in the seedling produced through seeds.

Acerola, citrus, pineapple, banana, papaya, umbu, mango and passion fruit are the fruit plants focused on on the field day. The theoretical part will be presented by researcher Nelson Fonseca and the practical part by Paulo Morais, Mapa technician who works at Embrapa Mandioca e Fruticultura. “Eight types of fruit plants will be covered, with all the grafting stages, and we will demonstrate planting”, explains Fonseca.
