Embrapa Soja and the Meridional Research Support Foundation launch BRS 525, a conventional, super-early soybean cultivar, which has expressed high productive potential in cold regions, on March 4, at 10 am, on the 2020 summer field day , promoted by the Agricultural Cooperative and the Agricultural Research Foundation (FAPA), in Guarapuava (PR). “As it is a conventional soybean with grains with a clear hilum, generally a preference for Asian markets, its grain can facilitate exports between niche markets”, highlights researcher Marcos Rafael Petek, from Embrapa Soja.

The expectation is to bring together approximately one thousand visitors. The following will be present at the launch ceremony: the head of technology transfer at Embrapa Soja, Alvadi Balbinot, the president of the Meridional Foundation Josep Pfann and the president of Cooperativa Agraria, Jorge Karl, among other authorities.

The BRS 525 has achieved the highest productivity in high altitude regions, above 700 meters. According to the researcher, the cultivar is super early - it belongs to maturity group 5.6 - and is also resistant to lodging. “Because it has an early cycle, it is a good option for managing soybean rust. This is because when the disease begins its severe incidence in the region, soybeans are already closing the cycle”, highlights the researcher. The precocity, according to him, also allows it to be included in the rotation system with other crops sown in the cold region, such as beans. BRS 525 is also recommended for wheat succession. “The producer who plants wheat in the cold region harvests in mid-November and, therefore, a soybean cultivar that produces well when sown in late November and early December should please producers who intend to do the wheat-soybean succession” , evaluates.

BRS 525 is recommended for sowing in high fertility soils and also presents good productive stability, in addition to being resistant to the main soybean diseases, including resistance to Phytophthora Root Rot. The cultivar is recommended for RS (Missões, Planalto Médio, Alto Vale do Uruguai East/West); SC (West, Midwest, Central-North and Serra Geral and Northeast); PR (southwest and central-south) and SP (south).
