Integrated agricultural production systems are the theme of a seminar promoted by Embrapa and Instituto Federal Catarinense - Campus Concórdia that takes place on November 8th in Concórdia, SC. The Santa Catarina Seminar on Integrated Production Systems (Crop-Livestock-Forest Integration) will bring together researchers from five Embrapa units (Wheat, Southern Livestock, Temperate Climate, Forest and Swine and Poultry), as well as professors and researchers from Unesp/Botucatu, UTFPR and Udesc to discuss the main current affairs under integrated production systems.

ILPF was included among the technologies that make up the voluntary commitments made by Brazil at COP-15, which resulted in the creation of the Sector Plan for the Consolidation of a Low Carbon Emission Economy in Agriculture, which is commonly called the ABC Plan ( Low Carbon Emission Agriculture), coordinated by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply.

The system has been adopted throughout Brazil, with greater representation in the Central-West and South regions. With great potential for carbon sequestration due to high accumulations of forage and forest biomass and accumulation of organic matter in the soil, ILPF helps to reduce emission of greenhouse gases (GHG) into the atmosphere. The goal is to expand the use of the system by 2020 million hectares by 4, preventing between 18 and 22 million tons of CO2 equivalent from being released. Embrapa maintains a specific website about ILPF, at the address www.embrapa.br/tema-integracao-lavoura-pecuaria-floresta-ilpf.

The seminar takes place in the IFC central auditorium in Concordia. Registration is free and can be done on the website www.embrapa.br/suinos-e-aves/seminario-ilpf. For further information, call 49 3441-0400 or email cnpsa.eventos@embrapa.br.
