Emater/RS-Ascar updates data on the effect of drought and the estimate of the summer harvest

Emater/RS-Ascar released this Saturday (12/02) the third edition of the Adverse Event Bulletin – Effect of Drought on the Main Agricultural Activities of Rio Grande do Sul, with information collected in the period from 25/01 to 04/02 in the units operatives of the Institution, and the Second Estimate of the 2021/2022 Summer Harvest.

According to the Adverse Bulletin, to date around 257 thousand properties have been affected by the effects of the drought, in addition to approximately 17,3 thousand families having difficulty accessing water.

The number of producers affected in corn cultivation exceeded 98 thousand, an increase of almost 5 thousand producers with losses in their production in relation to the last survey, in soybeans, there are around 88 thousand producers with a reduction in productivity, still emphasizing the high number of milk producers, 33,1 thousand with production difficulties.

The Second Estimate of the Summer Harvest, points to a reduction in crop production in relation to the initial estimate and a measurement of economic losses based on the price of the product published in Agricultural Quotations on 10/02.

According to the survey, corn production should be 2,7 million tons, a reduction of 54,7% compared to the initial estimate (6,1 million tons). Which represents a loss of R$5,2 billion.

Soybean production should be 11,1 million tons, 43,8% less than initially estimated (19,9 million tons). The economic loss amounts to more than R$27,8 billion.
