The jaboticaba season is about to start. The city of Hidrolândia, a municipality in the metropolitan region of Goiânia, is a hub for fruit production in the state and receives tourists from various parts of the country. To demonstrate how fruit production works in the city, the Goiana Agency for Technical Assistance, Rural Extension and Agricultural Research (Emater) is holding, on August 17th, the 2nd Technical Meeting on the Culture of Jabuticabeira.

The event, which will be held in the auditorium of the José Amâncio Municipal School, is the result of the project Strengthening the Jabuticaba Production Chain, a partnership between Emater, the campuses of the Instituto Federal Goiano (IF Goiano) of Hidrolândia and Urutaí, the Federal University of Goiás (UFG), the State University of Goiás (UEG) and the City of Hidrolândia, through the Department of Tourism.

Started in 2021, the project arose due to the demand from producers in the region to identify pests and diseases that cause the death of jabuticaba trees. In addition, it works in different segments within the production of jabuticaba by promoting workshops and disseminating technical information obtained from research carried out in the orchards of Hidrolândia.

“During the event, we will present results from research on cultivation carried out in the municipality of Hidrolândia, from August 2022 to July 2023, with unprecedented information about jabuticabeira cultivation”, explains Alenir Batista, extensionist at Emater.

The meeting will feature lectures on fruit production and marketing, presentation of success stories, seedling production and technical information.

“Our objective is to pass on the partial results of the project to rural producers, entrepreneurs and local authorities in Hidrolândia to together strengthen the jabuticaba production chain in the region”, says Alenir.

Registration is free and will take place before the event's opening ceremony. Producers, researchers and the community in general can participate.
