More than 80 rural producers from the municipality of São Pedro da União, in the south of Minas Gerais, participated in "Dia do Campo Limpo", held this week by Emater-MG. The action, with the aim of collecting empty pesticide packaging, resulted in the collection of 1,6 tons of material, which will be properly disposed of and will no longer represent a risk of contamination for producers and families, nor for the environment.

"It was a great success. Rural producers answered our call and the packaging will have the correct destination, no longer being a potential source of contamination for people and all flora and fauna in our municipality", said Emater's Guaxupé regional manager, Marcelo Bonfim. He highlighted the importance of partnerships for carrying out the action, such as the city hall, the Guaxupé Coffee Growers Cooperative (Cooxupé), the Minas Gerais Environmental Preservation Association (Apamig) and the National Institute for Empty Packaging Processing (InpEV) .

The agronomist at the Emater-MG office in São Pedro da União, Luiz Henrique Brigagão, states that the engagement of rural producers in correctly collecting packaging has been increasing. "We have held an average of two events per year and the producers have been very present. It is an opportunity to properly dispose of these materials, they are already aware that it is better to use the products and return the packaging as soon as possible", he argues. .
