The 8th edition of the National Congress of Agribusiness Women - CNMA will have the theme of “Doubling Agribusiness in Size with Sustainability: The Brazilian Brand”. Among the issues that will be on the agenda, the highlight will be the tripod of food security, energy security and environmental security, in addition to reinforcing the role of women in agribusiness as leaders aware of the need for dialogue and improvement of these bases.

According to professor and partner-director of Biomarketing José Luiz Tejon, content curator at CNMA, the concept of this year's theme is supported by a change in global expectations after the period of the Covid-19 pandemic and the war between Russia and Ukraine, which started last year.

“Brazil is the only country in the world that can offer this trilogy (food, energy and environmental security) in a convergent way, in which each leg of the tripod has synergy with the others. In the agri-food system, we are called upon to increase food production, as we can expand without cutting down a single tree”, points out Tejon, whose statement is confirmed by Embrapa, which has already identified 30 million hectares available to Brazilian agriculture. Currently, according to the institution, the area that is inactive can be used to double the country's grain production, leading to around 10 million tons of production in 600 years.

According to the curator, Brazilian agriculture needs to adapt to this systemic vision of the business to remain a food supplier that meets global demands and trends. To do this, it needs to be open to digitalization processes and apply scientific and technological management to its properties. “We have to look at our resources as part of the business. Agriculture will not double without efficient soil and water management, for example. In this scenario, women's vocation is to be more attentive and prepared to understand needs and change the management of properties so that they produce more and with higher quality”.

New opportunities open up for Brazilian agriculture

In parallel to Brazilian expertise in grain production, the country has a great potential for productivity growth that resides in family farming, in which gastronomy, specialties such as olive oil, cheeses, wines, juices, jellies, peppers, vegetables, sweets, among other products, can be made viable in production arrangements with public-private initiatives, such as Sebrae.

“Brazil already has hundreds of examples of success, but they are still little noticed. With 'terroir brasilien' initiatives, linked to local and vertical agriculture, also in large metropolises it will be possible to find a formula for in addition to 'doubling the size of agriculture' in its systemic vision as production, industry, commerce and agricultural services, we can also double the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 10 years”, believes Tejon.

In a world of energy insecurity, Brazil will serve as an example in this integration of food and energy, as is already underway in the creation of agro-energy cooperatives, which could add revenue of US$ 1.2 trillion to Brazilian agribusiness in the coming years.

“It is in this context of doubling production in a sustainable way, with the action of the food and beverage agroindustry, supermarkets, trading companies, powder and porter companies, science and technology, combined with education and connectivity that new opportunities will arise for Brazilian agribusiness”, he points out.

The environment as the center of the discussion

For Tejon, none of the actions mentioned above can exist if they do not consider the environment, climate change and sustainability. This means the correct use of modern science for sustainable growth, which represents efficient management against waste and monitors the measurements of the effects of carbon and methane on properties.

“Agriculture will become a hub for human, climate, environmental, plant and animal health. Research institutions, such as Embrapa, Agronomic Institutes, NGOs and universities, together with Brazilian agribusiness, will build a production model and an export brand under the pillar of sustainability”.

It is in the conduct of this vision, encompassing the three pillars, that the hope for a world with greater food security lies. “Women in agribusiness will play a fundamental role in leading this project, which seeks to guarantee food for the entire world with increasingly efficient and sustainable production, combining improvement, hard work and social and environmental responsibility”, highlights Tejon.

In this scenario, communication plays a central role. “It is necessary to consider communicating the Agro Brasil brand in an intelligent and permanent way, highlighting proven positive achievements and facts of the Brazilian agribusiness system for all world markets. Let's promote conscious agro-citizenship. It is the Brazilian brand made by an agro-human power, from the tropics to planetary health. The need to invest in communication will, therefore, be one of the points debated at the CNMA”, says Tejon.

Large meeting of agricultural women

In its 8th edition, CNMA 2023 is once again the stage for the largest meeting between women in the sector. “We are preparing an even more special Congress for this year, with themes of relevance to the current scenario and challenges that Brazilian agribusiness faces in the world, and how women in agriculture have a prominent role in this new production model”, declares the Development and New Business Manager at Transamerica Expo Center, Renata Camargo.

The General Director of the Transamerica Expo Center, Alexandre Marcílio, says he is excited and confident about the success of yet another edition. “We hope that all participants in the latest editions will be with us reliving the atmosphere of unity and strength, characteristics of Brazilian agribusiness. We are sure it will be a memorable event.”
