Certainly one of the biggest concerns for rural producers is the health of the crop. Diseases, which are numerous and vary depending on the region, can result in significant losses of approximately 20% in production.

The specialist in disease management in soybean and corn crops, Luís Henrique Carregal, warns about the importance of correct diagnosis and strategic and appropriate use to control end-of-cycle diseases, leaf spots, caused by Septoria glycines and Cercospora kikuchii.

Carregal draws producers' attention to these diseases that are caused by fungi and management errors. “The mistaken use of chemical products, the timing of application and the absence of other control strategies are among the main causes of diseases,” he explains.

The main technical recommendations to combat the incidence of these diseases in soybean farming include a series of protocols that need to be followed. “Constant monitoring of the crop, crop rotation, maintenance of straw cover on the soil, balanced fertilization, seed treatment, choice of varieties and chemical control”, points out the phytopathologist.

This and other information will be presented by researchers in the second live of the Circuito Master Meeting Soja 2021, held this Thursday (20/05), at 18pm, Brasília time, on the Proteplan YouTube channel. In addition to Luis Henrique Carregal, the program features the participation of experts in soybean diseases, Ivan Pedro and Fabiano Siqueri.

Ivan Pedro explains that these diseases can interfere with planting, offering risks of loss to the producer. To prevent this from happening, the researcher clarifies that every disease management strategy is based on five pillars that range from knowledge of the cultivar, the cultivation system, the correct choice of fungicides, the correct positioning of these products within the soybean cycle and the application, based on the application technology.

For Fabiano Siqueri, in this context, the virtual debate is a way for the Circuito Master Meeting Soja to take research results and projections for soybean farming to producers. “Quality information, caution and attention can help producers avoid losses due to soybean diseases. We hope that the content being programmed will add value to the producer and technician and that this information will already be used in the 21/22 harvest”, he states.
