Diesel prices close 2020 above the average of the last 11 months, according to Ticket Log

Diesel ended 2020 with a price of R$3,930 on the 31st. The value is similar to the average per liter of fuel recorded in the first days of 2021 by the Ticket Log Price Index (IPTL), of R$3,929. Compared to December, the price of diesel is 2,29% higher in the first weeks of the year. If the first fortnight of each month is considered, the increase is 2,72%.

Between February and December 2020, the average price per liter of diesel was below the value found at the pumps on the 31st. In January last year, however, before the pandemic began in Brazil, the fuel had an average cost of R$3,974, 1,14% above the current value.

S-10 diesel, with an average price of R$3,985 in the first days of January, increased by 2,24% compared to December and 2,76% compared to the first fortnight of the previous month. Just like regular diesel, it is only below January 2020 compared to the 12 months of last year, when the average was R$4,034.

In all regions, the values ​​of regular diesel and S-10 diesel increased. The North Region continues to have the highest recorded value. Regular diesel is sold at R$4,157, 2,87% more expensive than the average recorded in December – a record in the country –, and S-10 diesel at R$4,204, 2,14% higher than last month. The Southeast Region had the biggest increase in the value of S-10 diesel, 2,45%. The lowest values ​​are found in the South Region, at R$3,599, for regular diesel, and R$3,655, for S-10 diesel.

In the comparison between States, Acre maintains the leadership with the most expensive values ​​for both fuels. A liter of diesel was found at an average of R$4,736 and S-10 diesel at R$4,703. The states with the biggest increase in relation to December were Roraima, with regular diesel 4,95% more expensive, and Paraíba, where S-10 diesel increased 3,22%.

The lowest values ​​were recorded in Paraná, where the price of diesel averages R$3,545, and S-10 diesel R$3,590.

“Diesel and S-10 diesel are 13% cheaper in the South than in the North. But it was in Mato Grosso that regular fuel recorded the biggest price drop, costing 3,13% less than in December”, points out Douglas Pina, Head of Urban Market by Edenred Brasil.
