Argentina's National Health and Agro-Food Quality Service (Senasa) confirms the detection of a new cloud of locusts in Formosa, coming from Paraguay. In the region, three locust clouds have already been detected, one in the Central Chaco region of Paraguay and the other two on Argentine soil.
So far this year, this is the second entry of the pest. The other cloud is currently in Entre Ríos, in the Federal Department.
The cloud that entered Argentina in mid-May through Formosa, crossed Chaco, Santa Fé, Corrientes and on Sunday arrived in the province of Entre Ríos, as predicted by Senasa.
In Corrientes, with low temperatures and therefore low mobility, the pest was present for a month, during which phytosanitary treatments were carried out in conjunction with the Plant Production Directorate, which allowed its population density to decrease.
Currently, it works with representatives of producing federations, municipalities and provinces to implement new phytosanitary treatments.
On the other hand, the cloud detected in Guadalcazar Formosa advanced in a southerly direction, crossing National Route 81, at the height of Laguna Yema - Pozo del Mortero. The north wind allowed it to move quickly and is expected to approach the Bermejo River today. In this sense, the alert is extended to the province of Chaco.
At the same time, permanent communication is maintained between Senasa and the National Service of Quality and Health of Plants and Seeds (Senave) of Paraguay, in order to obtain information on the third wave that may approach Argentina in the short term, so that the alert remains to the province of Formosa and be incorporated into Salta.
