According to the Repom Freight and Toll Index (IFPR), demand for road freight in Brazil grew 7,8% in 2020, compared to the previous year. Movement in cargo transport also showed growth when the data is analyzed by sectors. In agribusiness, there was an increase of 3,7% compared to 2019.

Repom, a leading brand in expense management and payment solutions for Edenred Brasil's own and outsourced fleet, brings monthly data and analysis for the period and, when analyzing December, in comparison with the same period in 2019, it noticed a drop in 7,3% in the volume of road freight in agribusiness. When considering the industry and retail sectors, there was a 12,8% increase in freight demands in the last month of 2020 – an increase probably driven by the movement of e-commerce in the country.

The numbers are a reflection of the resumption of economic activities in the country. “December maintained the strong pace that had been seen in previous months. Despite being a period where a reduction in volume is expected, we had a significant increase when compared to the same in 2019”, points out Thomas Gautier, Head of Edenred Brasil's Road Market.

Considering the activities of Brazil's main port cities, demand for freight remained at a high level. In the year to date, there were 13% more trips than in the previous year, with positive highlights for the ports of Miritituba (19%), in Itaituba, in Pará, and Paranaguá (31%), in Paraná.

The IFPR is a monthly study that updates the road freight scenario and also passages at toll plazas on the main Brazilian highways, developed by Repom, which mediates more than 30 million transactions per year, with more than 1 million truck drivers in its base. With more than 25 years of market knowledge, Repom has a strong financial and innovation DNA through its platforms and solutions, using agile methodology, so that its audiences achieve high levels of efficiency in operations.
