Analysis carried out by DATAGRO Consulting confirms a strong increase in the overall volume shipped from the Brazilian soybean complex in 2021: total shipments totaled 105,03 million tons, 4,0% higher than that recorded in 2020, when 101,02 million tons were shipped. This confirmed the increase in the sector’s representation in the country’s foreign trade.
There were 86,11 million tons of soybeans – an increase of 3,8% compared to 2020; 17,2 million tons of soybean meal (+1,9%); and 1,65 million tons of soybean oil (+49,5%).
One of the motivating factors for this good performance was the record harvest harvested in 2021, assessed by DATAGRO at 137,81 million tons, an amount 8% higher than that harvested in 2020 – 128,19 million tons. In relation to the area, there was an increase of 4%.
The growth in the amount shipped and the increase in average prices contributed to Brazil achieving a significant gain in total revenue obtained from exports of the soybean complex in 2021: US$48,160 billion, a value well above the previous record of US$40,704 billion, recorded in 2018 , and 36,7% higher than the US$ 35,237 billion in 2020.
There were US$38,732 billion resulting from sales of soybeans – 35,6% above the value obtained in 2020; US$ 7,393 billion from bran sales (+25,1); and US$ 2,035 billion for oil (+167,4%).
“This greater receipt of revenue from the sector's foreign sales contributed strongly to the impressive increase in the country's global exports last year, additionally favored by the strong recovery of the Brazilian economy”, highlights Flávio Roberto de França Junior, Grains coordinator at DATAGRO.
Considering the country's total revenue at US$ 280,394 billion, the soybean complex contributed 17,2%, higher than the 16,8% in 2020 and just above the 17,0% of the previous record in 2018, easily surpassing the 14,6 .10% of the average participation over the last XNUMX years.
Projections for 2022
Unlike 2021, for this year DATAGRO estimates an increase in revenue only, as severe production losses will reduce the volumes to be shipped. “These cuts will be offset by the significant increase in average prices throughout the complex”, analyzes França Junior.
The consultancy forecasts shipments from the soybean complex at 99,15 million tons, which, if confirmed, would be 5,6% below the record observed last year.
The revenue forecast indicates US$51,345 billion (+6,6%).
