This year's grape harvest for industrialization in Rio Grande do Sul had a drop of 7% compared to 2021, with the production of 683.766.221,61 kilos of wine grapes, American and hybrids. The data, extracted from the Wine Declaration System (Sisdevin) of the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Rural Development (Seapdr), was presented during a meeting of the Grape, Wine and Derivatives Sector Chamber on Tuesday (25/10).

Wine production increased by 11,6% compared to last year, with table wines, made from American or hybrid grapes (12,2%), driving the increase. Fine wines, made from wine grapes, also recorded a 9,3% increase in production.

In the sparkling wine group, total production (which includes the base production for sparkling wines and sparkling wines) increased by 4,7% compared to last year.

The production of grape juices fell by 24,5% compared to the 2021 harvest, with a sharp reduction (52%) in the production of whole juices.

“Juice suffered with the pandemic, because wine consumption increased, but juice consumption did not. So stocks are high”, explained Everton Vilani, from the Brazilian Association of Grape Juice Industries (Asbrasuco).

As a referral, the members of the Sector Chamber chose to take the demand to the National Sector Chamber, of the Ministry of Agriculture, with a view to devising strategies for the flow of this production – such as, for example, state purchases of school meals and for the Armed Forces.
