Innovation Policy will promote the development of Brazilian cocoa farming

The XIV Cotton Technical Meeting of the Mato Grosso Agricultural Research Support Foundation (MT Foundation) already has a date set. The event, which brings together cotton farmers, consultants and technicians together with invited researchers and experts, will take place from August 29th to 31st, at the Gran Odara hotel, in Cuiabá/MT. There will be three days of programming with the aim of discussing aspects of the last harvest and providing impartial and reliable technical information for planning the next one.
The Algodão Technical Meeting returns to an in-person format in this edition, but will also be online. Registration for both formats can now be made through the institution’s website, at www.fundacaomt.com.br. Still on the page, you can check the program, which will have eight panels. The opening, in the early afternoon of the 29th, will be with the theme 'Challenges of cotton cultivation and trends for the future', with the participation of the president of the Brazilian Association of Cotton Producers (Abrapa), Júlio Buzatto, rural producer , Alexandre Bottan, and moderation by journalist Renata Maron, from Canal Terraviva.
The 'Scenario of pests in cotton cultivation in the 21/22 harvest and use of biotechnology to control lepidoptera' is the second panel, with the participation of Guilherme Ohl, from Ceres Consultoria, invited companies and moderation by Fundação MT researcher, Mariana Ortega . The third panel will be based on reports about the 21/22 harvest, with the participation of professionals who work in the culture in different regions of the State and Bahia, with the moderation of professional Marcio Souza from the Instituto Mato-grossense do Algodão (IMAmt). Professor Esalq/USP, Ederaldo Chiavegatto, will contribute to the topic 'Impacts of environmental stresses in the 21/22 harvest', in panel 4.
Next, panel 5 brings 'Weed management in cotton cultivation' and panel 6 'Disease management in cotton cultivation', with participation from IMAmr, Embrapa Algodão and Embrapa Sinop. On the last day of the event, two panels close the program: 'Challenges of cotton cultivation in sandy soils in the main producing regions' and 'Aphelenchoides Bessey and Rotylenchulus Reniformis - major challenges in cotton cultivation'.
As with the Soya Technical Meeting, held in April, participants will be able to learn about the services offered by the MT Foundation's Entomology, Phytopathology and Nematology laboratories. The institution's teams will also show how agronomic consultancy work works, with soil sampling, crop planning, recommendation of fertilizers and correctives, phytosanitary management, positioning of varieties, monitoring of fields, among others.
Luís Carlos Oliveira, marketing manager at Fundação MT, highlights that the Technical Meeting is an opportunity for all professionals working in cotton farming to acquire more knowledge and also strengthen relationships.
