Cummins presents its B6.7H hydrogen engine at Agritechnica 2023 in Germany ("Cummins B6.7H hydrogen engine"). Intended for tractors and agricultural machinery, it has a maximum power of 294 hp (290 hp) and a maximum torque of 1.200 Nm.

According to the company, this is an entirely new engine platform with technology to increase power density, reduce friction losses and improve thermal efficiency. As a result, "performance is equivalent to that of a diesel engine of similar displacement and compatible with the same transmissions, drivetrains and cooling packages." Another benefit of the B6.7H is that it runs significantly quieter than a diesel.

The engine can be installed in the same equipment as a diesel engine. Maintenance practices and costs are also comparable to diesel engines, the company reports. The main difference to consider is the fuel system.

Onboard storage is a critical component. The hydrogen needs to be compressed into the available space to store enough to meet the vehicle's duty cycle requirements. Cummins has a joint venture with NPROXX, specializing in the subject. The designed storage tanks will have a pressure capacity of up to 700 bar to maximize capacity and operational range.
