In January 2025, Sicoob Central SC/RS and Epagri will promote the Giro da Safra, a project to monitor and evaluate corn crops in the West of Santa Catarina. The objective is to estimate crop productivity and provide information to the production sector, contributing to the development of the region, which is one of the main grain producers in the state. In 2024, the Giro da Safra monitored corn production in the Northern Plateau of Santa Catarina.

The corn cob collection activities took place from January 7 to 9, with visits to 27 properties in Pinhalzinho, Saudades, Palmitos and Caxambu do Sul. Assessments were made on the quality and productivity of the corn crops. The methodology used for this field work was developed by researchers and technicians from Epagri. The visits were carried out by members of Epagri, Sicoob, Cooperitaipu, Cooperalfa, Cooper A1 and Agronomy students from Unoesc, in Xanxerê.

The next municipalities to be visited are Chapecó, Quilombo, São Lourenço do Oeste, Abelardo Luz, Xanxerê, Campo Erê, Passos Maia, Faxinal dos Guedes and Ouro Verde.

According to the Strategic Manager of Agribusiness at Sicoob Central SC/RS, Rodinei Munaretto, “Sicoob is the largest and most important private financial institution that finances the agribusiness production chain in Santa Catarina. We provide full support so that farmers have credit to finance the harvest and improve agribusiness, seeking greater productivity and profitability throughout the agricultural chain.”

Dirceu Leite, president of Epagri, celebrates the partnership with Sicoob and states that Giro da Safra “is an event that allows us to visit several producers in the region for an analysis and estimate of production and productivity, taking this information to the productive sector, helping in the planning of activities”.

Haroldo Tavares Elias, socioeconomic analyst at Epagri, visited 16 fields in Palmitos and Caxambu do Sul in this first stage of the Harvest Tour. He believes that the corn harvest in these municipalities should be good, with productivity ranging from 150 to 160 bags per hectare, which is a satisfactory volume for the region. The analyst reports having heard from farmers that this is the first harvest with good results in four years.

The project culminates in two events, in Chapecó on January 28 and in Xanxerê on January 29, for producers and invited regional authorities, to present the results of the collections and hold a festive dinner. In Chapecó, it will be held at the Credialfa Employees Association. In Xanxerê, it will be held at the Sicoob Credimoc Events Center.
