Registration is open for the course "Good agricultural practices in pineapple production with sustainability", which will take place from May 30th to June 3rd, in Cruz das Almas (BA), at Embrapa Mandioca e Fruticultura – Unit of the Brazilian Company of Agricultural Research – Embrapa, linked to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa). 50 participants are expected.

Taught by researchers and analysts from Embrapa, the program will cover the entire production cycle, from choosing seedlings to commercialization – including various technologies and practices, such as soil conservation, nutrition, integrated management of pests and diseases, production costs , harvest and post-harvest. The only external speaker is Antônio Humberto Simão, federal agricultural inspector from the Federal Superintendence of Agriculture (SFA/TO), who will speak about federal legislation on the production of pineapple propagative materials. There is also a technical visit to Itaberaba, the main pineapple producing region in Bahia.

According to analyst Herminio Souza Rocha, from the Technology Transfer Management Sector, the training arose from a pre-existing demand. "We already have some courses at the Unit that cover the management of other crops such as cassava and bananas. On several occasions we have been approached by producers to participate in specific training for pineapple cultivation", explains Rocha, who is one of the organizers of the event, together with researcher Aristoteles Pires de Matos.

The objective is to intensify Embrapa's relationship with producers who demand technologies for sustainable management of pineapple cultivation. "Contact with the productive sector is a way of absorbing the real demands that the market and the field have. With Embrapa technologies being used, the chances of success in the commercial exploitation of this crop tend to be much greater and that is what Embrapa seeks, in other words, the success of the producer with our technological package", he highlights.
