Cotton cultivation in Brazil grew 6,7% in the 2024/25 harvest compared to the previous cycle, reaching 2,15 million hectares. This is according to remote sensing data with satellite imagery from Serasa Experian. The increase represents an increase of almost 135 hectares.
Mato Grosso remains the country's main producer, with 1,56 million hectares planted — equivalent to 72% of national production — and was the state that most expanded its planted area in absolute numbers, with 83 thousand hectares more in 2024/25 compared to the previous cycle.
Other states that also showed significant growth compared to the 2023/24 harvest were: Piauí, with an increase of 53%, Tocantins of 35% and Bahia, which grew 12%, reinforcing the interiorization and diversification of production.
